I enjoyed my visit to Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony. It was my first time seeing the blue penguins. The blue penguin is the world's smallest penguin at just 13 -16 inches tall and weighs a little over 2.2 pounds. It is found in many places around New Zealand and Australia and is a protected native species. The blue penguin population is declining throughout New Zealand. There is an information center and outside a boardwalk with informational signs. You can see and photograph the boxes lived in by the penguins. There is a house that allows you to see them closely, and they are magnificent, but no photos are allowed inside the house . Prepare yourself for the smell of the house. Afterward, there is a boardwalk that leads to seating where you can observe more sea life and birds. I tried to make a compilation video. I highly recommend this activity. They also have a nice gift shop." - Beverly
